Vinka Oyanedel-Craver

Dr Vinka Oyanedel-Craver is Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Prior to her tenured at the University of Rhode Island held a post-doctoral position at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia. Her current research interests in the areas of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater treatment. Recently she has focused on environmental nanotechnology specifically on the behavior of the nanoparticles in different environmental compartment and their use as antimicrobial compounds in point of use water treatment in rural developing communities. She had authored more than 35 peer review publications. Dr. Oyanedel-Craver research has been funded by several federal, state and non-profit agencies, including NSF, USAID and DOI. She has several awards including the ASCE Rudolph Hering Medal and NSF CAREER award for young investigators. Her work has appeared in different media sources, more recently she is featured in the FOSS publication “Water and Climate” to be used nationwide as part of the 3rd grade science curriculum. She was the for chair for the International Women-Water -Nexus Committee at the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute, also member of the Water Innovation Task force at the New England Water and Environmental Association and member of the Board of Directors of the Ixtatan Foundation.
